Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Make an impact in the lives of students by providing essential communication support as a Sign Language Interpreter on a fulfilling, full-time contract near Charleston, SC. This on-site position starts August 11, 2026, and runs through May 27, 2027. You'll work Monday through Friday with school-based teams and support students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping to facilitate greater inclusion and understanding within the educational environment.
Key Qualifications:
Valid EIPA score of 3.5 or higher Successful completion of the EIPA written exam Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings strongly preferred Strong ASL fluency and ability to adapt communication for students from various age groups Professionalism, punctuality, and a commitment to confidentiality
Primary Responsibilities:
Interpret between American Sign Language and English for students, teachers, and school staff Work collaboratively with educators and school teams to support classroom participation Adjust interpretation styles to suit individual student needs across different age groups and learning environments Maintain accurate records of daily activities and student interactions as required by the school district Participate in IEP meetings and help advocate for the needs of students with hearing loss Uphold the highest ethical standards and maintain student confidentiality at all times This is an exciting chance to contribute to a supportive school environment while advancing your interpreting career.
