Job Description
Electrical Transformer Engineer Design & Field Support | United States (Domestic Travel Required) | Reports to: Chief Operating Officer Why This Role Matters JCL Energy is growing fast — and we need an engineer who doesn't just understand transformers, but lives and breathes them. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role at the intersection of precision engineering and real-world execution. You'll shape how we design, repair, and extend the life of power and distribution transformers while working alongside field, operations, and supply chain teams who count on you to deliver. What You'll Do Engineer & Design Develop and optimize transformer designs that meet
IEEE/IEC
standards and exceed customer expectations Review technical specifications, drawings, and customer data for feasibility, compliance, and continuous improvement Lead and support repair, reconditioning, upgrade, and retrofit projects from concept through completion Support the Field Be the go-to technical resource for field service teams during installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance Drive root cause analyses and own corrective action recommendations — not just identifying problems, but solving them Conduct site visits across JCL locations and customer sites to assess equipment condition and keep projects moving Own Lifecycle & Reliability Develop and execute lifecycle strategies that extend asset life, improve reliability, and reduce risk Provide data-driven insights on equipment condition, remaining useful life, and maintenance priorities Drive Operational Excellence Partner with operations and supply chain to ensure designs are both technically sound and cost-effective to manufacture Support ERP product structures (BOMs, configurations) in collaboration with operations teams Identify and lead process improvements that enhance cost accuracy, efficiency, and quality Collaborate Across the Business Partner with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and service teams to align engineering with business goals Contribute to vendor evaluations, sourcing strategies, and product standardization efforts What You Bring Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 5-10+ years of experience in transformer design, service engineering, or a closely related field Deep knowledge of transformer construction, materials, and industry standards (IEEE/IEC) Experience working across both shop and field environments Ability to read and develop technical drawings and documentation Strong problem-solving instincts with clear, confident communication skills A track record of managing multiple priorities without losing attention to detail Preferred Hands-on experience with transformer repair, refurbishment, or failure diagnostics Background in reliability engineering or asset management Familiarity with manufacturing processes and testing protocols ERP system experience (SAP, Oracle, Infor, or similar) Work Location & Travel Regular travel to JCL facilities in PA, TX, and SC, as well as customer sites across the U.S. Occasional international travel for OEM training or technical support Our Values — What We Expect of Every Team Member At JCL Energy, we don't just post values on the wall — we hire for them, develop for them, and hold each other to them: Journey Driven- You're committed to continuous improvement and never stop growing. Pay:
$95,000.00- $125,000.
