Job Description

Registered apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce; and individuals can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a portable nationally recognized credential. The Vermont Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program for Electrical and Plumbing assists in setting up structured, yet flexible training programs designed to meet the specific needs of Vermont employers through on-the-job learning and related instruction. Registered Apprenticeships can be sponsored by employers, employer associations, colleges, or labor management groups that can hire and train in a working situation. Apprentices are required to complete 144 hours of classroom instruction for each year of their apprenticeship. The instruction program jointly established by the Vermont Department of Labor (VDOL) and Vermont Technical College (VTC) delivers the required instruction in 48, 3-hour sessions. Students are expected to attend ALL scheduled classes and should arrive on time, expect to stay 3 hours, be prepared to learn, and have assignments completed. Traditional classroom instructors are compensated for 144 hours of instruction and 24 hours of prep; Distance Learning instructors are compensated for 144 hours of instruction and 48 hours of prep. Hourly pay rate is based upon years of instruction within the program. We believe in setting up for success, not only for the students but our instructors as well. Instructor course descriptions, and textbooks are provided as well as support throughout the program from other instructors, the VTC Program Coordinator, and VDOL.
