Job Description

Marshall Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, organized professional to join our team as a Building Assistant at Marshall Elementary School. The Building Assistant plays a key role in supporting daily school operations by providing essential administrative support to the building principal, staff, students, and families. Position Overview The Building Assistant is responsible for maintaining a professional and welcoming reception area while managing the daily operations of the school office. This role provides primary administrative support to the building principal and assists staff, students, and families to ensure the school operates smoothly and efficiently. This position is 240 days per year (flexible schedule during summer). Key Responsibilities Compile and record daily attendance for the school. Contact parents/guardians of students who are absent from school when necessary. Follow direction from the building principal, write out excuse slips enabling students to leave school property during the school day. Process correspondence for the building principal. Process purchase order requests for the school. Prepare attendance material for state reports. File all correspondence, report cards and student health records. Care for students who may be ill or injured. Inform parents/guardians of their child's injury or illness. Maintain the health room in good condition. Answer the telephone. Maintain all files. Process new enrollment information to teachers/guidance counselors. Supervise students in the office. Sort mail daily. Collect & deposit money at the designated bank. Assist in coordination of substitute teachers. Perform all other duties as assigned by the building principal or Superintendent. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication and customer service skills as the face of Marshall Elementary School Positive and respectful demeanor when interacting with students, families, staff, and community members Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks Ability to remain calm and make decisions in stressful situations Self-directed, flexible, and detail-oriented Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment Ability to operate office equipment efficiently and troubleshoot when needed Ability to maintain confidentiality Willingness to work required hours with regular and predictable attendance and to adjust schedule when necessary Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with a positive attitude and sense of humor Proficiency with computer systems; Infinite Campus experience preferred but not required Qualifications High school diploma required; Post-secondary education preferred but not required Previous experience in a school or office setting is preferred Bilingual skills preferred but not required First aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) Medication administration training (or willingness to obtain) Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 30 pounds Ability to work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time Marshall Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer and encourages resumes from diverse, bi-lingual or multi-lingual candidates.
