TITLE:
Elementary English Language Learner Teacher (Grades 3-5)

JOB SUMMARY
Nantucket Intermediate School is seeking a collaborative and culturally responsive English Learner (EL) Teacher to support students in grades 3-5 who are identified as English Learners under Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines. This educator will provide direct English Language Development (ELD) instruction aligned to the WIDA English Language Development Standards and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and will co-teach English Language Arts (ELA) within general education classrooms. The EL Teacher will implement the Massachusetts SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) model, including both stand-alone ELD instruction and integrated content instruction through co-teaching. The ideal candidate will foster equitable access to grade-level curriculum, promote language development across domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), and collaborate closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to ensure multilingual learners thrive academically and socially.
QUALIFICATIONS
Hold a valid Massachusetts DESE license in English as a Second Language (PreK-6 or 5-12), required SEI Endorsement required Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field preferred Demonstrated knowledge of WIDA Standards, ACCESS for ELLs assessment, and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks Experience with co-teaching and inclusive instructional practices preferred Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct English Language Development (ELD) instruction aligned to WIDA English Language Development Standards and students' proficiency levels. Co-teach English Language Arts (ELA) in grades 3-5 classrooms using Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies to ensure access to grade-level content. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement lessons that integrate language objectives and content objectives. Differentiate instruction using scaffolds, sentence frames, visuals, modeling, structured academic discourse, and other research-based strategies to support multilingual learners. Monitor student progress in language development through formative assessments and administer and analyze ACCESS for ELLs data to inform instruction. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student language proficiency levels, services, and progress in compliance with Massachusetts DESE requirements. Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings and collaborate with special education staff to support dually-identified students (ELs with disabilities). Communicate effectively with families, including multilingual families, regarding student progress and school engagement opportunities. Support the school community in fostering an inclusive environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity. Engage in ongoing professional development related to culturally responsive teaching, equity, and language acquisition best practices.
