POSITION SUMMARY
The Elementary Orchestra Teacher plans and delivers a comprehensive instrumental music program for elementary students that promotes musical growth, creativity, collaboration, and student achievement. This position fosters a positive and engaging learning environment while supporting school and community engagement through performances, partnerships, and collaboration with students, families, and staff.QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess: Bachelor's degree in Music Education required Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with JX endorsement required Elementary orchestra teaching experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge of instrumental and vocal music instruction, music theory, and performance practices Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and meeting the diverse needs of learnersDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Program Planning Plan, implement, and assess a comprehensive elementary orchestra program aligned with district curriculum and state standards Provide instruction in instrumental performance, vocal performance, music appreciation, and foundational music concepts Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction, to engage students and support skill development Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, interests, and skill levels of students Develop and utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions Select developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive musical repertoire aligned to student ability levels and instructional goals Integrate technology and creative instructional practices to enhance student learning and engagement Support student growth in collaboration, creativity, discipline, and performance skills Classroom Environment & Student Support Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment Set and reinforce clear expectations for student behavior during rehearsals, performances, and classroom activities Organize classroom space, materials, and routines to maximize instructional time and student participation Foster student confidence, responsibility, and appreciation for music through positive relationships and encouragement Support the social-emotional and developmental needs of elementary learners Performance & Program Development Plan, rehearse, and direct student performances for school and community events Coordinate concert logistics, rehearsals, and communications related to performances Collaborate with administration, staff, booster organizations, and community partners to support music programming Support musical components of school events, ceremonies, and productions as assigned Promote student participation and enthusiasm for music programs throughout the school community Communication & Collaboration Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators regarding student progress, expectations, and program activities Build positive and collaborative relationships with colleagues, families, and the broader school community Participate in staff meetings, committees, professional learning opportunities, and school improvement efforts Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to enhance student learning and school culture Inventory & Program Management Maintain accurate records related to student attendance, grades, and progress Manage inventory, care, maintenance, and organization of instruments, sheet music, uniforms, and related equipment Coordinate repairs and ensure proper storage and responsible use of school-owned property and musical resources Assist with budgeting and purchasing recommendations related to the music program as requested Professional Responsibilities Engage in ongoing professional learning to strengthen instructional practice and music education expertise Reflect on instructional practices and use student data to improve student outcomes Maintain compliance with district policies, state requirements, and professional standards Contribute positively to district initiatives, school culture, and continuous improvement efforts Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator or designeeDEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
