QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in area of Responsibility Bachelor's degree in area of major study preferred. Physical and mental ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Special Education Resource Teacher provides individualized and small-group instruction to elementary students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with general education staff, families, and service providers to support access to the general education curriculum and promote student success in the least restrictive environment.
REPORTS TO
Building Principal, Executive Director of Special Education, Special Education Supervisor
JOB GOALS
To support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of students with disabilities by providing individualized instruction and collaborating with school staff and families to ensure students have access to and make progress in the general education curriculum within the least restrictive environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES
Provides direct instruction in a variety of learning environments, staying current on best practices and collaborating with curriculum consultants to ensure specialized instruction aligns with district-wide academic standards and promotes student growth. Facilitates case management services for students eligible for special education, including developing IEPs and related documents, and maintaining accurate records to ensure implementation with fidelity. Conducts formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and determine eligibility for services. Communicates regularly with parents and guardians to address questions and concerns related to students' programs and services, and partners with families to ensure they are informed and engaged in their child's progress, IEP goals, and support strategies. Collaborates with general education teachers and staff to ensure appropriate instruction and support inclusive practices in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Utilizes technology for record-keeping and to support instructional access and student learning. Performs other duties as assigned by the Special Education Administrator or Building Principal.
