Aug 17, 2026 Job Description Position Purpose The Elementary Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in order to help them achieve academic, behavioral, social, and emotional success. The teacher collaborates with general education teachers, support staff, families, and service providers to ensure students receive appropriate educational services in the least restrictive environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Student Support Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and accommodations. Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs. Utilize research-based instructional practices and interventions. Support student growth in academic, behavioral, communication, social, and functional skills. Provide instruction in individual, small group, and inclusive classroom settings. Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance. Compliance and Case Management Serve as a case manager for assigned students receiving special education services. Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate with team members during evaluations and reviews. Ensure compliance with IDEA, Iowa Department of Education requirements, and district policies. Complete all required special education documentation in a timely manner. Assist in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans and other support plans as needed. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, administrators, and related service providers. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and educational planning. Work cooperatively with staff to support inclusive educational practices. Provide guidance and support to paraprofessionals assigned to students or classrooms. Classroom Environment Create and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. Implement classroom management practices that support student success and positive behavior. Promote independence, self-advocacy, and confidence in students. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities and district initiatives. Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families. Attend required meetings, trainings, and staff collaborations. Perform other duties as assigned by administration.Position Type:
