Full-time Full-time Position Summary:
The Preschool Teacher in an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) classroom is responsible for providing a developmentally appropriate, inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and physical development of young children ages 3-5. This position serves students with and without disabilities, ensuring all children receive high-quality instruction aligned to state early learning standards and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with early childhood standards and district curriculum (e.g., Creative Curriculum or similar). Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including students with disabilities. Utilize play-based and inquiry-based instructional strategies to promote learning. Integrate social-emotional learning and positive behavior supports into daily instruction. Special Education & IEP Implementation Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and services for students with disabilities. Collect and analyze data to measure student progress toward IEP goals. Collaborate with AEA staff and related service providers (speech, OT, PT, etc.). Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district special education regulations. Classroom Environment Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. Establish and maintain consistent routines and procedures. Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies. Assessment & Data Conduct ongoing assessments using district-approved tools (e.g., GOLD, FASTbridge, or other early childhood assessments). Use assessment data to inform instruction and interventions. Maintain accurate records and documentation for student progress and compliance. Collaboration & Communication Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and development. Collaborate with general education staff, paraprofessionals, and support staff. Participate in IEP meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and staff meetings. Support transitions for students entering kindergarten or other programs. Program & Compliance Ensure the classroom meets all requirements for Statewide Voluntary Preschool Programs (if applicable) and Iowa Chapter 16 standards. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Participate in professional development opportunities related to early childhood and special education.
