Nov 1, 2026 Job Description The High School Head Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the high school basketball program. The coach will promote academic success, sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and skill development while creating a positive and competitive athletic environment for student-athletes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Leadership Organize, supervise, and administer all phases of the high school basketball program. Develop and implement practice plans, game strategies, and offseason development programs. Promote and model good sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and character. Foster a positive and inclusive culture within the basketball program. Maintain high expectations for student conduct, effort, and academic performance. Student-Athlete Development Teach fundamental basketball skills and strategies appropriate for high school athletes. Encourage the physical, emotional, and social growth of student-athletes. Monitor athlete eligibility, attendance, and academic progress. Provide leadership opportunities and mentorship for student-athletes. Supervision and Safety Ensure adequate supervision of athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities. Maintain a safe environment and follow all district, conference, and state athletic association regulations. Inspect equipment and facilities regularly and report concerns promptly. Enforce team rules and district policies consistently and fairly. Communication and Collaboration Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, staff, officials, and community members. Coordinate with assistant coaches to ensure program consistency and development. Work collaboratively with other coaches and school personnel to support student success. Attend athletic department meetings and required professional development. Administrative Responsibilities Assist with scheduling, transportation coordination, inventory, fundraising, and equipment management. Maintain accurate records, statistics, and other required program documentation. Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the school district and the Iowa High School Athletic Association or applicable governing organization. Assist in organizing youth basketball opportunities and program promotion when appropriate.
