We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and relationship-focused Employee Relations Consultant / Labor Relations Partner to support leaders and teams across a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized healthcare environment. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who thrives in complex hospital operations, enjoys partnering directly with leadership, and brings deep expertise in employee and labor relations. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, support workforce strategy initiatives, and act as a key representative in union and labor-management matters. Key Responsibilities Labor & Employee Relations Serve as the Alameda Health System management representative in interactions with union representatives regarding grievances, disciplinary actions, meet-and-confer processes, and labor-management initiatives. Participate in labor negotiations and assist in the preparation and interpretation of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), including drafting contract language and related correspondence. Provide consultation and guidance to managers and supervisors regarding labor agreements, employee relations matters, corrective action, and performance management. Deliver MOU and labor relations training to leaders, including post-negotiation updates and interpretation support. Conduct workplace investigations related to employee concerns, including harassment, discrimination, bullying, and other employee relations matters. Stay informed on labor laws, employment regulations, arbitration trends, and public sector labor practices impacting healthcare organizations. Strategic HR Partnership Partner closely with operational and clinical leadership teams to support workforce planning, employee engagement, retention, talent development, and organizational effectiveness. Support leaders in performance management processes including coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and reduction-in-force activities. Identify workforce and employee relations trends and recommend proactive HR solutions aligned with operational goals. Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence and internal stakeholders to implement programs and share best practices that enhance workforce performance and employee experience. Assist with labor cost analysis, workforce impact assessments, and research related to compensation or benefit proposals during negotiations. Qualifications Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum four (4) years of Human Resources and/or Employee & Labor Relations experience. Experience supporting unionized work environments and interpreting labor agreements. Experience managing employee relations matters, investigations, corrective actions, and leadership coaching. Strong communication, consultation, and conflict-resolution skills. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Experience in a healthcare, hospital, public sector, or high-volume operational environment strongly preferred. Experience supporting multiple business units and complex workforce operations. Knowledge of California labor laws, public sector labor relations, and healthcare workforce practices preferred. Why Join Alameda Health System?
