This Engineering Associate I position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the office of Engineering and Design. This Engineering Associate will receive supervised, on-the-job training in preparing construction and maintenance plans for structures on the State Highway System. Assists with designing highway structures to meet current structural, hydraulic, and foundation requirements. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Apply engineering knowledge and skill in the design of a variety of structure types. Applies knowledge including geometrics, foundations, structural components, and specifications to design a project that is aesthetically pleasing, economical and structurally adequate. Develop preliminary layouts for use in making cost estimates and in determining structure size and location. Perform structural analysis of a variety of items referred to the Bridge Section. Applies knowledge including the design and rating of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, sign structures and light towers, and other barriers. Perform computations necessary to design or design check structures. Applies knowledge including the checking of fellow employees, Consultant's plans, Fabricator's shop drawings and a contractor's falsework or shoring designs Study hydrology of the drainage area at stream crossings and performs bridge or culvert hydraulic analysis to appropriately size the structure. Assist the supervisor in training engineering associates and technicians in office procedures and practices necessary to produce or review a set of plans. Assist the Squad Leader in the management duties applicable to an assigned group of projects to maintain program schedules. View the full position descriptionQualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
4 years of experience in Engineering. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered. Ability to obtain an Intern Engineer Certificate within the first year of employment. Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
