Engineering Inspector I/II

The City of San Leandro is recruiting for the position of Engineering Inspector I/II in the Public Works Department. This position performs a variety of field and office duties related to inspecting the quality of work and materials used in public works construction, infrastructure, and capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with applicable plans, specifications, standards, and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of public works construction practices, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with contractors, developers, engineers, utility representatives, and the public. Responsibilities include inspecting construction projects and encroachment permits, reviewing plans and specifications, documenting project progress, preparing inspection reports and change orders, conducting field tests, monitoring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and responding to resident concerns related to construction activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience Guidelines:

Any combination of experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college-level coursework in engineering, drafting, surveying, mathematics, or a related field, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, building trades, public works inspection, public works maintenance, or related experience for the Engineering Inspector I level. For the Engineering Inspector II level, candidates should possess two (2) years of public works infrastructure inspection experience equivalent to Engineering Inspector I with the City of San Leandro.

Salary Range:

$8,565.00 - $11,478.00
