We are looking for an Engineering Technician to join Kaiser Aluminum in Newark Ohio! The Engineering Technician will operate all Developmental Center equipment supporting new product, alloy, and process development activities for Kaiser. The role also assists with revising and updating equipment operation and design to support safety improvements, continuous improvement and new process methodologies. Responsibilities also include performing materials analysis in the analytical laboratory, documenting results, and supporting departmental procedures and execution. The Engineering Technician is responsible for personal safety, 5S activities, and maintaining compliance with departmental procedures.
What you will work on:
Support of developmental area including casting, materials testing and evaluation and maintenance activities including but not limited to: Operation of melting furnaces, casting equipment, stress relief furnaces and ingot/billet saws. Scrap/inventory management and raw material charge preparation Operates equipment to transport, clean, position, install, assemble, disassemble, reassemble, remove, maintain, repair, and test materials, equipment, etc. Installs, tests, repairs, inspects, adjusts, and maintains in good working order all types of machinery, mechanical equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems within Advanced Engineering lab and caster area. Support of Laboratory activities including but not limited to: Operation of saws and other finishing equipment for sample preparation. Operation of equipment for environmental, mechanical, or other material characterization. Maintenance of equipment. Create and revise work instructions to maintain quality system, basic equipment operation and maintenance procedures. Operate industrial mobile equipment and remote-control crane as required and will interact with other types of mobile equipment. Support of various department improvement initiatives, including setting benchmark safety and 5S (housekeeping) standards. Assist in the design and modification of Laboratory or Developmental equipment for enhanced capabilities. Assist in the design and implementation of new equipment and fixtures for the product and process development efforts as required.
Requirements:
What you will bring to the position: Associate degree, certifications or other relevant education in Metallurgical/ Industrial/ Mechanical/ Electrical engineering or maintenance discipline preferred. Previous molten metal/casting and maintenance experience preferred. Heavy industrial manufacturing experience Experience in maintaining equipment and documenting the requirements of maintaining equipment of various industrial nature Safety focused work ethic. Willingness to work as a team player to meet the common goals of the organization. Demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail. Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously. Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint) and internal productivity software.
Work environment in the plant:
Approximately 80% of the job function is performed in a pilot manufacturing environment. There is exposure to loud noises, operating machinery and a manufacturing environment. The remaining 20% is performed in an office or laboratory environment. Travel to other Kaiser facilities may be required on a limited basis Physical demands: There will be periods of walking and standing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance. The employee is required to reach with arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
