General Summary The Bio-Med Engineering Technician works independently on repairs, safety testing and preventive maintenance of general clinical equipment. Maintains equipment records, writes reports, and coordinates outside repairs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation used in health-care delivery field: Inspects and installs medical and related technical equipment for use by clinicians involved in researching, monitoring, diagnosing, and treating physical ailments. Safety-tests medical equipment and health-care facility's structural environment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards. Utilizes the bio-medical software system to maintain records of work performed according to policy and procedure. Follows policies and procedures related to ordering replacement parts and other purchase services. Communicates effectively with vendors who provide services to ensure proper and timely outcomes. Provides follow-up communications to equipment users related to repair and maintenance statuses. Participates or conducts training in-service programs on the use of equipment to the equipment users. Cross-trains learned skills to other bio-med technicians. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or equivalent experience including a diploma program (i.e. Military Training, Technical school, etc.) preferred. Work Experience Three to five years of bio-medical experience preferred. Certification/License CBET-Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician preferred. Mental/Physical Requirements Standing, walking, sitting, reaching, squatting, kneeling and lifting ability up to 75 lbs. good eye sight and a steady hand, perform under stress. Working Conditions May come in contact with patients. Will encounter unpleasant conditions and exposure to heat, cold, noise, dirt, inclement weather, chemicals and gases, water, fumes, overhead pipes, infectious disease or hazardous waste. Some overnight travel may be required for training purposes.
