designs and builds advanced RF, microwave, and antenna solutions for mission-critical aerospace, defense, space, and satellite applications. From Radar and Telemetry to Datalinks and Communications, our products deliver the reliable technology needed to stay connected, protect critical missions, strengthen our military, and help defend freedom around the globe. U.S. citizenship required. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a government security clearance. Why This Opportunity? Work on mission-critical technology supporting aerospace and defense applications. Use
SOLIDWORKS
every day to create 3D models, detailed drawings, and complex assemblies. Be involved from concept through production, including prototypes, design reviews, troubleshooting, and sustaining engineering. Solve real engineering challenges involving mechanical packaging, tolerances, materials, manufacturing, and product integration. Collaborate across disciplines with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, PCB, Test, Quality, and Procurement teams. Grow your technical career by working alongside experienced engineers and designers. Bring your hands-on experience - a traditional four-year Mechanical Engineering degree is not required. The Mechanical Designer plays an important role in bringing these products from concept to reality by supporting the development, documentation, and integration of high-reliability electronic and electromechanical products. This is a hands-on mechanical design and CAD position focused on
SOLIDWORKS
® 3D modeling , detailed drawings, electronic packaging, engineering documentation, revision control, and practical mechanical problem solving. This position is particularly well suited for an early-career designer with an associate's degree, technical-school education, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on CAD/design experience who wants to develop a career in mechanical design. The Mechanical Designer works closely with experienced engineers, designers, manufacturing personnel, and other technical disciplines throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Create detailed 3D solid models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and related engineering documentation using
SOLIDWORKS
® and
SOLIDWORKS PDM.
Develop mechanical layouts and packaging solutions for RF/microwave assemblies, antennas, control devices, and related electromechanical products. Design and document assemblies involving machined parts, additive-manufactured components, sheet metal, connectors, PCBs, cables, motors, gears, bearings, fasteners, and related hardware. Work with experienced engineers and designers to solve mechanical layout, packaging, tolerance, and product integration challenges. Support product development from concept and prototype through production release and sustaining engineering. Create and maintain parts, Bills of Material (BOMs), drawings, and engineering documentation within PLM and
SOLIDWORKS PDM
document/data control systems. Generate and process Engineering Change Orders/Notices (ECOs/ECNs). Apply
ASME Y14.5
drafting standards, GD&T, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design to Cost (DTC) principles. Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, PCB, Test, Quality, and Procurement personnel to support product integration and resolve technical issues. Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, troubleshooting, and production-support activities. Work directly with manufacturing and suppliers to understand how designs are machined, fabricated, assembled, and tested. Support legacy documentation updates using AutoCAD® as required. Communicate technical information effectively both verbally and in writing. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency using
SOLIDWORKS
® for 3D mechanical modeling and drawing creation is required. Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in mechanical design, CAD, and product development. Strong ability to visualize how mechanical components fit together and develop practical packaging and integration solutions. Understanding of mechanical drawings, dimensioning, tolerancing, materials, fasteners, and mechanical assemblies. Understanding of
ASME Y14.5
drafting standards and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). Strong deductive reasoning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, additive manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly. Familiarity with electromechanical components such as connectors, PCBs, cables, motors, gears, bearings, and related hardware. Ability to learn from and work effectively with experienced engineers, designers, manufacturing personnel, and other technical disciplines. Familiarity with
SOLIDWORKS PDM, PLM
systems, and configuration-controlled documentation practices is preferred. Working knowledge of AutoCAD® is preferred. Effective verbal, written, organizational, and multi-tasking skills. After initial training, the ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision is required.
Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year of applicable mechanical design, drafting, or CAD experience is required, with three (3) years preferred. Candidates with some design experience and who have recently completed an Associate's degree or technical-school CAD/design program are encouraged to apply. Relevant internships, co-op assignments, military technical experience, substantial school design projects, and hands-on
SOLIDWORKS
experience may be considered toward experience. Experience with mechanical packaging, electronic assemblies, aerospace/defense products, or other high-reliability products is a plus but is not required.
Education:
Associate degree or technical education is preferred, particularly in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Graphics, Drafting Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline. Technical/trade-school training, military technical training, or equivalent practical CAD/design experience will also be considered.
