Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a skilled drafter with design experience to join our civil engineering team to work from either of our office locations - Bradley, IL and Manhattan, IL. In this role, you will prepare technical exhibits, plans, and contract documents that support the improvement and construction of infrastructure and land development projects. Working closely with engineers and project managers, you will translate concepts and design criteria into detailed construction documents and prepare design solutions for project components using CADD software. As a Design Drafter, you will contribute directly to infrastructure projects that strengthen communities and support municipal, utility, residential, commercial, and industrial development. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings, plans, profiles, cross-sections, and details for projects such as roadways, stormwater systems, utilities, commercial and industrial facilities, and land developments.
- Create and revise plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D based on engineer markups, survey data, and project specifications.
- Perform technical design tasks, including topographic surfaces, contours, profiles, details, quantity calculations, and design documentation.
- Prepare design solutions for project components such as storm sewer sizing, stormwater detention, sanitary sewer profiles, and proposed final grades.
- Ensure drawings comply with company standards, client requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal codes/regulations.
- Perform quantity take-offs and assist with basic design calculations or surface modeling as needed.
- Ensure best practices are utilized to organize project files, drawing sets, and revision history.
- Support permit application packages and construction document preparation.
- Review, make notes and mark revisions to plans, and draft revisions efficiently while maintaining drawing accuracy and quality.
- Prepare as-built drawings and project close-out documentation. Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Design, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 2+ years of experience in civil engineering drafting and design (or strong portfolio demonstrating relevant skills).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (surface modeling, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks preferred).
- Understanding of civil engineering principles, plan reading, and construction documentation.
- Ability to interpret survey data, topographic maps, and engineering sketches.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple assignments.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Familiarity with local and state agency standards, permitting processes, and land development codes.
- Experience in stormwater management design, roadway design, site design, and/or utility design.
- CAD/Civil 3D certification or coursework.
