Overview LAMMCO is seeking a hands-on Industrial Designer / CAD Technician to support our growing industrial fabrication operation in Lafayette, Indiana. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level or early-career designer who enjoys taking an idea from concept to something that is actually fabricated and Implemented. You will be part of our sales and project management team. You will work directly with our welding and fabrication teams to develop drawings and designs for custom industrial projects. Our work is not repetitive production drafting. Projects vary considerably and may include custom steel fabrication, equipment stands, carts, racks, guards, work platforms, material-handling solutions, fixtures and other custom solutions for industrial customers. Duties Create 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings using SolidWorks Convert sketches, concepts and field measurements into accurate production drawings Present conceptual designs to customers for feedback and refinement Develop parts and assemblies for custom fabricated products Produce dimensioned drawings that welders and fabricators can easily interpret Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) Source material quotes, estimate fabrication time, and quote the project for customer review Assist with material selection and basic design decisions Revise existing drawings based on customer or fabrication requirements Work directly with welders and fabricators to ensure designs can be efficiently manufactured Take field measurements at customer facilities when required Assist sales and project managers with conceptual drawings and project development Maintain organized drawing files and revision control Support continuous improvement of LAMMCO's design and fabrication capabilities Skills Working knowledge of SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software Ability to create and interpret mechanical drawings Strong mechanical aptitude Understanding of dimensions, tolerances and basic Engineering concepts Ability to accurately measure existing equipment and structures Strong attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively with fabricators, project managers and customers Willingness to spend time at a computer, on the shop floor, and onsite with customers Preferred, but not required: Associate degree or technical training in CAD, drafting, mechanical design, engineering technology or a related field SolidWorks certification Experience designing welded steel assemblies Familiarity with sheet metal and structural steel Experience creating fabrication drawings Knowledge of common manufacturing processes including welding, plasma cutting, laser cutting, machining and forming Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD platforms

Pay:

$24.00 - $26.50 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
