About the Role Are you a detail-oriented technical specialist with a passion for 3D modeling and manufacturing? We are looking for a CAD/CAM Technician to join our engineering and pre-production team. In this role, you will turn custom client specifications and engineering designs into precise, machine-ready CNC programs for laser cutting, press brake forming, and fabrication equipment. You'll work closely with both design engineers and shop floor operators to optimize material yield, streamline workflows, and ensure the structural quality GMI is known for.
What You'll Do CAD Modeling & Flat Patterns:
Translate 3D models and customer drawings into precise manufacturing flat patterns while calculating material thickness, bend allowances, and tooling requirements.
CAM Programming & Nesting:
Write machine code (G-code) for CNC lasers and press brakes while optimizing sheet metal nests to maximize material yield and reduce waste.
Shop Floor Support:
Partner directly with CNC operators, press brake techs, and supervisors to troubleshoot programming, fitment, or tooling needs during production.
First-Article Audits:
Inspect and audit first-run cuts and formed parts to ensure strict adherence to engineering tolerances and quality standards.
Digital Library Management:
Maintain and organize company DXF/DWG files, 3D CAD models, and program libraries for smooth production recall.
What We're Looking For Experience:
2+ years of hands-on experience in CAD/CAM operation within a sheet metal or custom metal fabrication setting preferred.
Education:
Associate degree in CAD/CAM, Drafting & Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent trade school certification/experience.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, etc.). Hands-on experience with CAM/nesting software for sheet metal (Bystronic, Trumpf, SigmaNEST, or similar). Deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, flat pattern development, bend deductions, and tolerances (cold rolled steel, aluminum, stainless).
Mindset:
Strong spatial reasoning, sharp eye for detail, proactive problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills across engineering and manufacturing teams. Ready to Build Your Career with Us?
