CAD Technician Job Description About Bay Motor Products Bay Motor Products manufactures shaded-pole AC motors for a variety of applications, with a primary focus on air-moving applications within the heating and cooling industries. Our company also operates an AS9100-certified Swiss CNC department, producing precision, lathe-turned components for customers across a variety of industries. In addition, our wire harness and electrical component assembly facility in Elkhart, Indiana, produces quality electrical solutions for a wide range of applications. Position Summary The CAD Technician reports directly to an Engineer and works closely with fellow technicians, manufacturing personnel, engineers, and office management. The CAD Technician will participate in projects based on the needs of the organization, as well as their individual skills and experience. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation, developing 3D models and assemblies, and producing detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks. The successful candidate will be comfortable asking questions, seeking clarification when needed, making suggestions, and learning new processes and technologies. Primary Responsibilities Create 3D models of standard and custom parts using SolidWorks. Create and maintain 3D assemblies. Generate detailed 2D engineering drawings in accordance with standard drafting practices. Create and maintain parts lists and bills of materials (BOMs). Prepare customer dimensional drawings and other technical documentation. Document design changes and tool changes associated with new and existing products and tooling. Assist engineers with the completion of new and existing projects. Work closely with manufacturing personnel to ensure drawings and technical documentation accurately support production requirements. Assist others with the interpretation and application of engineering drawings and other technical information. Maintain accurate and organized engineering documentation. Ask for assistance and clarification when requirements or technical information are unclear. Additional Technical Skills The following skills are beneficial but not necessarily required: Data mapping and organization Basic programming Visual Basic Strong technical communication skills Experience working with manufacturing processes and production environments Job Requirements Knowledge and understanding of standard commercial drafting practices, specifications, and conventions. Proficiency in SolidWorks and the ability to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings. Ability to create and maintain engineering documents using SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word . Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical information. Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and office staff. Willingness to ask questions, make suggestions, and explore new ideas. Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team. Working Conditions The position is primarily based in an office environment, with occasional assignments requiring work in the manufacturing/shop environment.
