• Friday | Standard Business Hours Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Drafter to join our engineering and design team in Hauppauge, NY.

In this role, you will prepare, revise, and maintain technical construction drawings for commercial fire alarm, life safety, security, and low-voltage electrical systems. Working under the mentorship of senior design engineers in an in-office collaborative setting, you will draft architectural floor plan device layouts, single-line risers, panel termination schematics, and compile permit submittal packages. This is an exceptional entry-to-junior level opportunity for an ambitious CAD professional looking to develop a long-term technical career in the life safety and building technologies industry.

Key Responsibilities AutoCAD Drafting & Detailing:

Create and modify 2D construction drawings in AutoCAD (2014 or newer) under the guidance of senior designers.

Drawing Package Deliverables:

Produce accurate floor plan device layouts, system riser diagrams, electrical point-to-point interconnections, and field installation termination details.

Permit & Submittal Packages:

Prepare engineering submittal packages, assemble manufacturer cut-sheets/data sheets, and assist with basic calculations (such as battery backup and voltage drop).

As-Built & Revisions:

Track redlines, markups, and contractor field modifications to generate clean, accurate as-built drawings.

Drawing Management:

Organize, update, and maintain project CAD files, block libraries, and engineering project directories.

Team Collaboration:

Actively engage with senior engineers and project managers to learn industry codes (NFPA), incorporate feedback, and grow technical competencies.

Required Qualifications AutoCAD Skills:

Proficient with AutoCAD (version 2014 or newer) with practical experience producing layered 2D floor plans, details, and schematics.

Industry/Construction Exposure:

1-5 years of drafting experience (or strong technical vocational training combined with practical drafting) in: Low-voltage systems (fire alarm, security, access control, CCTV, telecom) OR Electrical / Mechanical construction contracting.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required (Associate Degree or Certificate in Drafting/CAD, Electrical Technology, or Architecture is a plus) .

Blueprint Reading:

Ability to read and interpret architectural and MEP/electrical construction blueprints.

Software Literacy:

Solid competency in Windows and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PDF editors).

Location & Onsite Presence:

Must be locally based and able to commute daily to the Hauppauge, NY 11788 office (100% in-office role).

Note:

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a direct W2 basis without current or future visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Prior drafting experience specifically on commercial fire alarm or security/access control systems. NICET Certification (Fire Alarm Systems) or interest in pursuing NICET credentials. Familiarity with NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 72) and local New York building codes.
