Job Description
Job Title:
Distribution Designer Job Description As a Distribution Designer, you will be responsible for designing overhead and underground electric distribution systems for various projects including new business, system upgrades, relocations, storm hardening, and maintenance. Your role involves developing construction drawings, layouts, schematics, staking sheets, and material lists using CAD and GIS-based tools. You will apply utility standards, NESC requirements, local codes, and client specifications to all design work while performing basic to intermediate distribution calculations. Responsibilities + Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems for new business, system upgrades, relocations, storm hardening, and maintenance projects. + Develop construction drawings, layouts, schematics, staking sheets, and material lists using CAD and GIS-based tools. + Apply utility standards, NESC requirements, local codes, and client specifications to all design work. + Perform basic to intermediate distribution calculations, including equipment sizing, electric load calculations, and pole loading and clearance analysis. + Conduct or support field visits to verify site conditions, perform measurements, and coordinate constructability considerations. + Coordinate with internal engineering teams, survey, permitting, right-of-way, and construction groups. + Interface with customers, municipalities, and joint-use partners as required. + Prepare permit drawings and documentation for local, state, and regulatory agencies. Essential Skills + 0-1 years experience with CAD and/or Design experience. + Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD Software. + Associates or Certification in CAD, AutoCAD, Design, Power distribution, Microstation, Electrical, Engineering, Drafting, or Utility design. Additional Skills & Qualifications + CAD Certification or Associate's degree in Computer Aided Drafting. + Experience on the consulting side is a nice to have. Work Environment The work environment offers flexibility, particularly for individuals with over 2 years of experience, allowing for a remote setup. However, the candidate must be local to Pittsburgh, DuBois, or Collegeville, Pennsylvania. For those with 0-2 years of experience, a hybrid schedule is offered with in-office work required 3 days per week. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
