Job Description
Manhole Covers Direct is a fast-growing manufacturer and distributor of custom access covers, hatches, grates, and fabricated steel products. We work with contractors, engineers, municipalities, utility companies, and commercial customers throughout North America to provide high-quality custom solutions. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, designing custom products, and seeing their work go from concept to finished product. Position Summary We are seeking a SolidWorks Draftsman & Estimator to join our growing team. This role combines CAD drafting with estimating and project coordination. You'll create production drawings, review customer specifications, estimate fabrication costs, and work closely with our manufacturing partners to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule. No two projects are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and technical problem-solving. Responsibilities Create and modify detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks Review customer drawings, specifications, and project requirements Design custom steel manholes, access covers, hatches, and related fabricated products Prepare accurate material, fabrication, and shipping estimates Develop bills of materials (BOMs) and production documentation Communicate with customers, vendors, and manufacturing partners regarding project details Coordinate engineering revisions and design changes Ensure drawings meet manufacturing standards and quality requirements Assist with product improvements and new product development Support the sales team by providing technical expertise and pricing Qualifications Experience using SolidWorks (required) Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail Experience estimating fabricated steel, sheet metal, or custom manufacturing projects is preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
