Job Overview The Design Applications Specialist supports the execution, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of
CAD, BIM, ERP
configurator and design-related systems used by the drafting and engineering teams. This role focuses on applying established standards, maintaining design tools and libraries, assisting with system configuration, and supporting users through training and troubleshooting. Working closely with the Design Applications Engineer and Drafting & Design Manager, the Design Applications Specialist ensures design systems function reliably, consistently, and in alignment with company standards. This position plays a key role in enabling drafting productivity, quality, and adoption of standardized workflows.
Essential Functions:
Support daily operation of
CAD/BIM/ERP
systems and design applications. Assist with maintaining configurations, templates, title blocks, families, part libraries, styles, layers, and parameters. Apply and reinforce established drafting and modeling standards across projects. Help ensure file organization, naming conventions, and version control practices are followed. Develop, document, and enforce drafting, modeling, and system standards across all CAD/BIM platforms. Establish and maintain company-wide CAD configurations, including print templates, title blocks, families, part libraries, styles, layers, parameters, and file structures. Govern version control, data integrity, and naming conventions across design systems. Partner with engineering, compliance, manufacturing, and IT teams to align design systems with downstream workflows and regulatory requirements. Assist with user setup, profiles, permissions, and system configurations. Support deployment of approved
CAD/BIM/ERP
configurations and updates. Perform basic system checks and validation following upgrades or changes. Help troubleshoot user issues and escalate complex system-level problems to the Design Applications Engineer. Utilize existing automation tools, scripts, and macros developed by the Design Applications Engineer. Assist with testing and validating automated workflows and custom tools. Identify repeatable or inefficient tasks and provide improvement suggestions. Help document tools, workflows, and user instructions. Provide day-to-day support to drafting and engineering users. Assist with onboarding new users to CAD/BIM systems and standards. Help maintain training materials, how-to guides, and configuration documentation. Reinforce best practices and standardized workflows through coaching and support. Coordinate with drafting, engineering, manufacturing, and IT teams to resolve application-related issues. Support external designers or vendors in aligning with company design standards and systems. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to design technology and workflows.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Experience supporting multi-user CAD/ERP environments. Basic exposure to automation tools, scripts, or macros (e.g., iLogic, AutoLISP). Familiarity with PDM/PLM or document management systems. Experience supporting external design partners or vendors. Interest in learning advanced
CAD/BIM/ERP
system administration and automation.
Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field. 2-4 years of experience working with
CAD/BIM/ERP
software in a production environment. Working knowledge of
CAD/BIM/ERP
tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, or similar platforms. Familiarity with drafting standards, documentation practices, and QA/QC processes. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established standards. Good communication skills and a service-oriented mindset. Physical Requirements (Including but not limited to): Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility to determine needs Able to lift/carry 15 lbs.
