1st Shift Job Overview Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking a Designer 3 to support the design and development of components and portions of systems used in manufacturing operations. In this role, you will create and modify designs, develop layouts and sketches, and coordinate design requirements with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, materials, and planning teams. The position requires hands-on CAD design experience and the ability to independently produce accurate design work. Responsibilities Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products. Support manufacturing operations through practical and accurate design solutions. Use computer-aided design and related design tools such as CAD, CAM, Siemens NX, CATIA, AutoCAD, or Autodesk Inventor. Gather technical information and perform studies and calculations to support design development. Prepare original rough layouts, sketches, and design proposals. Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, materials, and planning groups. Consider ease of manufacture, material availability, contractual specifications, and other design requirements. Independently produce design work and communicate effectively with technical teams. Basic Qualifications Associate degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience may substitute for the Associate degree. 4 years of non-related experience may substitute for the Associate degree. An Apprentice Certificate may substitute for the Associate degree. Graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School may substitute for the Associate degree. Experience with drafting and design using CAD tools. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively. Preferred Qualifications Siemens NX drawing production experience. Siemens NX 3D product model arrangement experience. AutoCAD drawing production experience. Autodesk Inventor drawing production experience.
