We deliver SCADA, data historian, OT/IT integration and manufacturing intelligence projects for manufacturing, pharma and life sciences clients. The role We are hiring a Controls Engineer to relocate to San Francisco and work full-time on site with one of our key clients. You will be the client's day-to-day controls expert, designing, commissioning and supporting their automation and control systems. This is a hands-on role. You will work alongside the client's operations, maintenance and IT teams, backed by Inpute's wider engineering group in Europe. Key responsibilities Design, program and modify PLC and HMI logic to client standards and specifications. Develop and maintain SCADA applications, alarm management and operator screens. Commission new equipment and control system upgrades, including FAT, SAT and loop checks. Troubleshoot control system faults and provide on-site support to production and maintenance. Integrate control systems with data historians, MES and enterprise systems (OT/IT integration).
Produce and maintain documentation:
functional specs, design specs, I/O lists, test protocols and as-builts. Support validation and change control activities in regulated (GMP) environments where required. Follow site safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices. Act as the on-site link between the client and Inpute's delivery team, reporting progress and risks. Essential requirements 3+ years' experience as a Controls, Automation or Instrumentation Engineer in an industrial setting. Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic or Control Engineering, or equivalent experience. Hands-on PLC programming with at least one major platform (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar). Experience with HMI and SCADA development (e.g. Ignition, FactoryTalk View, Win
CC, AVEVA
). Ability to read and mark up electrical schematics, P&IDs and control panel drawings. Solid grasp of industrial networks and protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA). Willingness to relocate to San Francisco and work full-time on the client's site. Eligibility to work in the United States, or ability to obtain it. Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with client stakeholders. Desirable skills Experience working in manufacturing environment. Batch control experience (ISA-88) and familiarity with ISA-95. Data historian experience, such as AVEVA PI or Canary would be beneficial.
