Master Motion Control for the Toughest Terrain. The Next Generation of Heavy Equipment Control Starts with You!
What Makes This Role Great:
In this role, you will be designing automatic motion control systems algorithms for off-highway industrial machinery such as tractors, combines, excavators, and dozers. Responsibilities include developing, maintaining, and optimizing core control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink, and integrating these into products.
Key Exciting Responsibilities:
System Architecture & Requirements:
Partner with domain experts and project teams to architect positioning and control systems and establish realistic, achievable requirements. Algorithm Design & Model-Based Design (MBD): Design, develop, and productize core control law algorithms-including feedback/feedforward loop compensation, signal conditioning, and filter/state estimation for optimal pose estimation-utilizing MATLAB/Simulink.
Vehicle Dynamics Modeling:
Develop and validate non-linear vehicle dynamics plant models.
System & Software Architecture:
Define robust system and software architectures while writing clean, well-documented, and maintainable code and models.
Validation & Physical Testing:
Validate control algorithms through simulations (SIL/HIL) and physical on-machine testing to ensure ongoing performance and product quality.
Quality Assurance:
Identify and write test cases mapped to control requirements to maintain high-quality software standards.
Development Tooling:
Create and maintain custom data processing tools to support the overall development, analysis, and deployment processes.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Core Experience:
5+ years of experience in control algorithm development for dynamic systems.
Education:
Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, GNC, or a related engineering field (preferred).
Technical Expertise:
Strong foundation in classical and modern control theory, with extensive MATLAB/Simulink development experience.
Domain Knowledge:
Hands-on experience with automatic control of off-highway industrial machinery.
Testing & Productization:
Experience in testing, verification, validation, and productization of algorithms, including the use of plant simulation tools.
Data & Analytics:
Experience with data acquisition, processing, and analytics to support testing and validation of developed control systems.
Processes:
Familiarity with requirements decomposition and management tools.
Travel:
Ability to travel up to 10% annually.
