Brief Description Our Automation & Digitalization division is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer in the Glens Falls, NY area. This position would be responsible for the process control design, basic & detailed engineering, commissioning, and start up support of continuous digester, washing, screening and bleaching systems. This role bridges process engineering and execution, supporting projects from conceptual and basic design through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and performance testing. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities may include but are not necessarily limited to the following: Develop and review process design deliverables for cooking & fiberline systems, including: Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Process descriptions and operating philosophies Define and size field instrumentation, control valves and controls for digesters, washers, heaters, pumps, tanks, filters, and auxiliary systems Support HAZOP, design reviews, and operability studies Develop and maintain Instrument and Control Valve Lists / Specifications Develop and maintain Loop & I/O Lists Develop and maintain Motor Lists (motors, drives, power requirements) Develop functional loops, logic diagrams and control narratives Coordinate closely with Automation & DCS engineers to ensure accurate control strategies and signal mapping Support control philosophy development, cause & effect diagrams, and functional descriptions Support 3D model reviews and layout development to ensure operability and maintainability Interface with mechanical, piping, and electrical disciplines to resolve design issues Provide technical support during procurement, including vendor data review and FAT participation Support construction by answering RFIs and reviewing field changes Support cold and hot commissioning of cooking & fiberline systems Participate in loop checks, functional testing, and interlock validation Support start up, tuning, and stabilization of the process Execute and support performance testing and acceptance testing Troubleshoot process and control issues during start up Support post start up optimization and process improvements Train customer or plant personnel on process operation and best practices Prepare commissioning, start up, and performance reports #1ANDRITZway Core Behaviors Customer Focus Ownership for Performance Shared Commitment Openness #1ANDRITZway ALeaders Behaviors Lead by Example Lead the Business Care for People Guide the Team Job Specific Competencies See Key responsibilities and qualifications Qualifications (Required) When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following essential skills, abilities, and experience: Graduate of a bachelor's or diploma program in chemical, process or electrical engineering (or similar) Minimum of 5 years' experience in Pulp & Paper or industrial engineering Strong understanding of continuous digester, washing, screening and bleach systems Experience producing and reviewing P&IDs Familiarity with process safety and design standards Proficiency with standard engineering tools and software Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical and instrumentation drawings Resourceful, self-managed, and goal driven but still able to work effectively in a cross functional team Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (English) Practical knowledge of North American standards Legally entitled to work in the USA Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites (typically 5-20%). Other Valued Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Preferred) DCS programming and/or configuration experience Experience with COMOS and AutoCAD would be considered an asset Ability to register as a Professional Engineer would be considered an asset.
