Job Title:
Junior Process Engineer Job Description Join a dynamic team as a Junior Process Engineer in a global specialty chemical manufacturing company. This role is essential in streamlining processes and optimizing throughput in our St. Louis location. You will spend the majority of your time on the manufacturing floor, playing a pivotal role in implementing new process improvements and ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective production that meets customer requirements. Responsibilities Work closely with the operations team to leverage problem-solving skills and technical expertise. Own day-to-day production troubleshooting and lead cross-functional teams to address production issues. Collect and categorize lost production data to prevent supply plan disruptions. Monitor and collect data on yield, energy usage, and sustainability to meet cost conversion and sustainability goals. Measure machinery performance and address maintenance issues to ensure reliable, low-cost, and high-quality production. Respond urgently to plant issues and emergencies. Act as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and execute effective corrective and preventative measures. Provide expertise in the optimization of raw material and utility usage, including yield or waste generation. Validate and improve the technical skills of operations team members. Support and maintain up-to-date and accurate standard operating procedures (SOPs). Understand site integration and provide input to optimize manufacturing processes. Apply continuous improvement, value creation, and financial acumen skills to enhance profitability and service. Drive high levels of safety, quality, responsiveness, and reliability for the customer. Develop operator and supervisor training programs. Mentor new engineers in on-site processes and technology. Lead or assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve site Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) performance. Maintain and monitor key operating metrics. Essential Skills Minimum of 1 year of experience in a chemical manufacturing plant, including leading change and working with cross-functional teams (internship or co-op experience is acceptable with a relevant degree). Proven experience with change control and utilizing lean processes to improve KPIs. Strong root cause analysis skills. An engineering degree is required, with a preference for chemical or mechanical engineering. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with process improvement, process flow diagrams, and continuous improvement. ISO 9000 or 9001 compliance knowledge is a plus. Familiarity with EPA regulations. Experience conducting obsolescence studies on aging equipment. Work Environment This position requires spending 75-85% of the time on the manufacturing floor, which is not climate-controlled in most areas. You will work with 1-2 other engineers in a union facility for production and operations, though this role is non-union. Collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external contractors for process implementation is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $48.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
