Type:

full-time Yoh Life Sciences is hiring a Scientist I, Process Sciences to support the development and optimization of solid - phase reactor processes. This role is focused on applying chemical and process engineering principles to solid-phase reaction systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fluid flow, mass transfer, pressure drop, mixing, resin/solid-support behavior, reaction kinetics, and process scale-up. This is an onsite position based in Cambridge, MA.

Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM Key Responsibilities Design and execute laboratory experiments supporting solid-phase reactor development and optimization. Evaluate reactor performance, including fluid flow, pressure drop, mass transfer, mixing, residence time, and solid loading. Investigate the impact of resin/solid-support properties such as swelling, packing, permeability, and particle behavior on process performance. Apply reaction engineering and chemical engineering principles to troubleshoot reactor and process limitations. Analyze experimental data and identify relationships between hydrodynamics, mass transfer, reaction kinetics, and process performance. Support process development and scale-up of solid-phase reactor systems. Collaborate with scientists, engineers, analytical teams, and equipment partners. Document experimental results and contribute to technical reports, protocols, and presentations. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related discipline or M.S. with 3+ years of relevant industry or research experience. Hands-on experience with chemical process development, reactor systems, reaction engineering, or solid-liquid processing. Strong understanding of fluid flow, mass transfer, reaction kinetics, and process engineering fundamentals. Experience designing experiments, analyzing quantitative data, and troubleshooting experimental systems. Strong communication and technical documentation skills.

Packed-bed or fluidized-bed reactors Solid-phase or heterogeneous reaction systems Reactor hydrodynamics and pressure-drop analysis Mass-transfer studies Resin, polymer, or solid-support systems Chromatography or packed-column operations Catalysis Peptide or solid-phase synthesis Oligonucleotide synthesis Process scale-up and technology transfer Design of Experiments (DoE) We're looking for a hands-on scientist or engineer who understands how a solid-phase reactor actually works and can connect fundamental engineering principles to real-world process performance.
