Job Title:
Scientist III Job Description The Scientist III is a senior technical contributor within our R D team, leading advanced bench-scale treatability studies and providing technical support for pilot-scale projects. This role applies expert scientific judgment, data interpretation, and problem-solving to improve system performance, throughput, and reliability. The Scientist III owns scientific direction, mentors junior staff, and supports customer-facing technical discussions. Responsibilities Lead planning and execution of complex bench-scale treatability studies. Provide technical design and operational guidance for pilot-scale projects. Identify and resolve technical issues and process bottlenecks across bench and pilot studies. Ensure pilot testing delivers consistent, interpretable performance data. Prepare clear, high-quality reports and presentations with data-driven recommendations. Develop and validate bench-scale treatment methods informed by PFAS structure-reactivity relationships. Drive method and process innovations to improve system performance, scalability, and reliability. Perform technical reviews of experimental plans, data, and reports to ensure rigor and traceability. Support technology sourcing and evaluation toward deployable engineering solutions. Participate in customer and partner technical discussions, clearly communicating scientific rationale and limitations. Mentor junior scientists and provide technical oversight to ensure quality and consistency. Lead authorship of treatability reports, white papers, patent applications, and scientific publications. Adhere to established safety standards and R D SOPs. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-documented laboratory environment. Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and integrity in all work. Essential Skills B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, or related field. 4+ years of R D experience (2+ years post-Master's or Ph.D.). Expertise in water treatment engineering with hands-on bench-scale testing. Experience managing multiple projects and supporting pilot-scale operations amid water quality changes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Scientific coding, modeling, and data analytics. Optimization of reagent formulations. Supporting and advancing treatability studies and process development. Work Environment The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and is based on-site at our headquarters in North Minneapolis. Occasional travel may be required for client visits, industry events, or conferences. The role is situated in an industrial/manufacturing-style laboratory space, ideal for those comfortable with practical, applied lab work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $48.07/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
