Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Process Controls Engineer to support our North Carolina manufacturing facility and provide cross-site assistance to our New York location. This dual role position is ideal for a technically strong individual with hands-on experience in automation, controls systems, and industrial maintenance. The successful candidate will lead process controls initiatives and manage the maintenance department, driving uptime, cost reduction, safety awareness, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Controls Engineering (80%) Develop, modify, and maintain PLC, HMI, and DCS systems across production lines. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PLCs, VFDs, servos, HMI, and industrial networks. Support data collection initiatives via MES, Historian, and SQL-based systems. Collaborate with operations, IT, and engineering to ensure seamless automation processes. Implement and upgrade automation and control systems aligned with production goals. Maintain documentation of control systems and electrical schematics. Provide on-call support for controls-related downtime and troubleshooting. Provide input to projects via project meetings and design reviews. Attend new equipment FATs. Maintenance Management (20%) Lead and supervise maintenance team members, including mechanics and electricians. Plan, schedule, and prioritize preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Coordinate major repairs, shutdowns, and equipment installations. Oversee parts inventory, vendor coordination, and equipment reliability programs. Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures; promote a culture of safety. Use CMMS or ERP tools to manage work orders and maintenance KPIs (once available). Train staff on new equipment, procedures, and best practices. Knowledge and usage of tools such as Why-Why, Fishbone, failure analysis,, root cause analysis, etc.
Qualifications:
Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum 5-7 years of experience in process controls and industrial maintenance; leadership experience preferred. Proficiency in Rockwell Automation, GE Fanuc, RSLogix 5000, Historian/MES systems, and industrial networking. Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical panels, hydraulics, pneumatics, and power distribution. Strong project management skills. Analytical and systematic troubleshooting skills. Ability to work flexible hours and travel occasionally to our New York facility (15-20% travel).

First Aid/CPR Certification Lean/TPM or TPR experience SAP, JD Edwards, or Maximo CMMS systems Ethernet/IP and industrial communication protocols GE Proficy, OSI PI, or Dataparc Historian platforms
