WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
Saint-Gobain CertainTeed Interior Products Group is seeking a motivated and hands-on Research Engineer to join the Gypsum R D team. This role advances the development and commercialization of glass mat-faced gypsum products through laboratory research, experimentation, and cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will independently execute and manage technical projects from concept development through commercialization, generating technical knowledge and translating findings into product, process, and raw material improvements. Key Responsibilities Independently execute and lead laboratory and pilot-scale projects focused on product development, product improvement, raw material qualification, and laboratory test development. Design, execute, and interpret experiments; develop technical recommendations and project plans to advance product and process innovation. Lead plant trials, prototype development, and scale-up activities with manufacturing, suppliers, and external partners. Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technology transfer activities; develop technical reports, presentations, project documentation, and recommendations to support business objectives. Promote a strong safety culture through equipment stewardship, training, and 5S activities. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to interns, co-ops, technicians, or junior team members as needed.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience, or Master's Degree with thesis in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Plastics/Polymer Engineering, or related technical discipline. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data and draw meaningful conclusions. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and present technical recommendations to management, business stakeholders, and executive leadership. Demonstrated project leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration. Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues across organizational levels and functions. Preferred Qualifications Experience in product development, manufacturing support, process improvement, raw material qualification, or technology commercialization activities. Experience conducting pilot trials, plant trials, or scale-up activities. Ability to influence technical decisions through data-driven recommendations, collaboration, and effective communication Additional Requirements Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment and follow all safety procedures Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
