A key role with the largest Jones Act employer with a diverse fleet of vessels. Crowley Fuels delivers clean petroleum products across remote Alaska, supplying communities, construction projects, government operations, and the commercial fishing industry. Our specialized tugs and barges, operated by skilled local mariners, allow us to reach challenging, shallow, and otherwise inaccessible areas to keep homes, businesses, and essential services powered across the state. Crowley is actively hiring a Boat Engineer in our Western Alaska fleet. The available position is with United Steelworkers (USW). Duties include but not limited to the following:- Responsible for preparation, operation and maintenance of all vessel machinery and systems throughout the voyage
- Attends to mechanic functions aboard the vessel. Operate machinery as required to carry out vessel's mission (main engines, auxiliaries, winches, etc.)
- Monitors, maintains and repairs equipment and vessel machinery
- Manages fuel, lube, and other fluids essential to equipment operation. Maintains fuel and ballast conditions to achieve trim as directed by vessel Master
- Consults with the vessel Master regarding Engineering in order to maintain safe and efficient operating conditions.
- Instructs deck watch standers as to proper engine room conditions with respect to security/safety rounds.
- Assists on deck as directed by the vessel Master.
- Completes Parts and Material Requisitions (PMRs) and Repair Order Service Requests (RSORs) as necessary to maintain equipment, tools, and adequate parts and spare inventories in compliance system.
- Ensures correspondence with port engineers on the process and status of all PMRs and RSORs.
- Ensures true, complete and accurate Engineering Logs are maintained.
- Performs engine room cleaning, scaling, and painting duties as needed to ensure a clean and well-maintained space. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications and Credentials
- MMC
- TWIC badge - Not to expire within three months
- Valid Passport - Not to expire within six months
- Familiar with electronic engines
- Ability to use computers and compliance software. Minimum Experience
- Minimum 4 years sailing experience with engineering duties. Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with operating in Western Alaska waters
- Shipyard Competent Person
- Hazwoper
- Enjoys long hitches Ability to use computers and compliance software
- DDE 4000 or better
- STCW w/ endorsements including OICEW and Advanced Firefighting, Basic Safety Training Rotation
Seasonal:
April - November (periodic vacation rotations) Geographic Area- US West Coast to
North Slope of Alaska, Aleutian Chain, and Canadian Arctic Benefits:
The following benefits available after completing a 90-day probation period:- Health Care coverage paid year-round (employee AND family) after signing an intent to return the following year
- Automatic company 401k contribution of 3% with additional company matching contributions (Year 1: 2%, Year 2: 4%, Year 3 and greater: 6%).
- 10 days paid time off each season w/ round-trip travel paid
- All travel to and from work is arranged and paid for by Crowley
- Employer-paid training available Pay
- $738.
