We work closely with general contractors, owners, architects, engineers, vendors, and field teams to deliver fencing, gates, access control, and related construction scopes safely, efficiently, and according to contract requirements. The Project Engineer works directly with the Project Manager to support the successful execution of active construction projects from award through closeout. This position owns the day-to-day flow of project information — including submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, drawing revisions, procurement, long-lead materials, change documentation, project correspondence, and closeout requirements. Success in this position means fewer last-minute emergencies, better documentation of changes and project conditions, fewer information gaps reaching the field, and a Project Manager who can rely on accurate and timely project information to make decisions. The Project Engineer is also a development position with a clear path toward Project Management. As competency grows, the Project Engineer will gain increasing exposure to contract interpretation, client communication, cost and change management, scheduling, procurement, and field coordination. Essential Responsibilities Project Administration & Document Control Support the Project Manager in the administration and execution of active construction projects. Review project plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and related construction documents. Maintain organized and current project documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Track drawing revisions, addenda, specifications, correspondence, and other project changes. Ensure the field and internal teams are working from the most current approved information. Maintain project logs and trackers for RFIs, submittals, drawings, procurement, changes, and other critical project items. Assist with project startup, including reviewing contract requirements, project schedules, submittal requirements, and administrative procedures. Monitor contractual deadlines and identify upcoming requirements that may affect project execution. Submittals & Shop Drawings Coordinate the preparation, review, submission, tracking, and approval of material submittals and shop drawings. Work closely with Drafting, Purchasing, Operations, vendors, and the Project Manager to ensure submittals are complete and submitted on time. Maintain accurate submittal logs and communicate outstanding approvals. Follow up with General Contractors, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders to keep approvals moving. Identify approval delays that could affect procurement, fabrication, or installation. Ensure approved submittals and shop drawings are properly distributed to the appropriate internal and field personnel. RFIs & Technical Coordination Prepare, submit, track, and close RFIs in coordination with the Project Manager and appropriate internal teams. Coordinate with Drafting, Operations, Superintendents, vendors, GCs, and design teams to resolve questions and discrepancies. Review plans and specifications to identify conflicts, missing information, constructability concerns, and scope questions. Track RFI responses and communicate decisions and revisions to affected personnel. Escalate unresolved RFIs or delayed responses when they may impact schedule, procurement, fabrication, or field operations. Procurement & Long-Lead Tracking Coordinate with Purchasing to track material procurement against project schedules and fabrication requirements. Maintain visibility into material lead times, release dates, delivery dates, and outstanding purchase requirements. Identify long-lead materials and communicate potential schedule impacts to the Project Manager. Coordinate approved submittals with procurement and fabrication requirements. Follow up with vendors regarding quotes, orders, production status, and delivery schedules. Help ensure materials are available when required by the project schedule. Change Management Assist the Project Manager with identifying, documenting, pricing, and tracking potential changes to contract scope. Review RFIs, revised drawings, field conditions, owner/GC directives, and other project information for potential cost or schedule impacts. Maintain change order and potential change logs. Gather supporting documentation, including drawings, correspondence, photographs, labor/material impacts, and vendor pricing. Help ensure changes are documented and communicated before additional work is performed whenever possible. Track change order status from identification through approval and incorporation into project records. Scheduling & Project Coordination Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with maintaining project schedules and identifying upcoming work requirements. Track critical project dates, including submittals, approvals, procurement, fabrication, deliveries, and installation milestones. Coordinate information flow between office and field teams. Identify items that could prevent the field from proceeding as planned. Follow up on open action items and provide status updates to the Project Manager. Participate in project meetings and document action items, responsibilities, and deadlines. Help ensure commitments made during meetings are followed through to completion. Field & Operations Support Maintain regular communication with Superintendents and Operations regarding project status and upcoming needs. Provide field teams with current drawings, approved submittals, RFI responses, and other necessary documentation. Help resolve information or documentation issues that arise during construction. Visit project sites periodically as needed to better understand project conditions and support project execution. Coordinate with field personnel to identify potential issues before they become schedule, cost, or quality problems. Project Closeout Assist the Project Manager with project closeout from substantial completion through final completion. Track outstanding punch-list and closeout requirements. Collect and organize as-built documentation, warranties, operation and maintenance information, certifications, approved changes, and other required closeout documents. Coordinate with internal departments, vendors, subcontractors, and the General Contractor to obtain outstanding documentation.
