The position will involve the design and evaluation of residential and small commercial structures, with a significant portion of the work focused on evaluations of existing structures . The ideal candidate will have a BSCE or equivalent engineering degree and FE/EIT certification . A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred , and a PE is required for the Project Structural Engineer position. Responsibilities Design residential and small commercial structural projects, including structural and foundation systems. Perform evaluations of existing residential and small commercial structures , including projects associated with: Real estate transactions and property due diligence. Home remodels and additions. Determining whether existing walls are load-bearing. Evaluating the structural implications of removing or modifying walls and other building components. Assessing existing foundations, framing, and other structural elements. Conduct site visits and field observations and document existing conditions. Meet with homeowners, contractors, architects, real estate professionals, and prospective buyers to discuss structural conditions and proposed modifications. Prepare written reports, calculations, sketches, and structural plans documenting site observations and recommendations. Design and prepare complete structural plans and details for regional building department submittals. Design concrete and MSE retaining walls . Perform structural and foundation design and analysis. Coordinate structural work with architectural, civil, and other project requirements. Review soil and material testing information as it relates to structural and foundation design. Qualifications BSCE or equivalent engineering degree required. FE/EIT required. PE license preferred; required for the Project Structural Engineer position. Experience with residential and/or small commercial structural design. Ability to evaluate existing structures and identify structural concerns in the field. Ability to determine load paths and evaluate existing framing, including load-bearing walls. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate directly with homeowners and potential buyers. Ability to prepare clear, concise engineering reports and structural plans based on field observations. Experience with concrete and MSE retaining wall design required. Experience with soils and material testing is a plus. AutoCAD proficiency is a plus. Ability to work independently in the field as well as collaboratively in the office. This position offers an opportunity to work on a diverse range of structural engineering projects, from new residential and small commercial construction to hands-on evaluation of existing buildings and remodels .
