Job Description

Job Title:
Project Engineer Job Description This role offers an early-career Project Engineer the opportunity to support a wide range of commercial construction projects, including hospitals and medical facilities, medical office buildings, zoo projects, and museums throughout the Denver metro area. You will contribute to both ground-up construction and tenant improvement work, typically ranging from approximately $100,000 to $25 million in project value. The position is ideal for a graduate or a professional with up to two years of experience who is eager to learn, grow, and take on diverse responsibilities within a collaborative general contracting environment. Responsibilities Support the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects, including hospitals, medical office buildings, zoo facilities, museums, and tenant improvements. Assist in managing project engineering activities for new construction projects ranging from approximately $10 million to $25 million, as well as smaller tenant improvement projects starting around $100,000. Interpret, write, and process construction documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements and specifications. Coordinate with subcontractors to support scheduling, sequencing of work, and resolution of field issues, promoting effective communication and collaboration on site. Participate in quality control efforts by helping to monitor work in the field and verifying that construction meets plans, specifications, and company standards. Assist with project closeout procedures, including documentation, punch lists, and coordination with owners, design teams, and subcontractors to ensure a smooth turnover. Work closely with project teams to address challenges proactively, contribute to problem-solving discussions, and help maintain a no finger-pointing, team-first culture. Represent the company professionally with owners, clients, and trade partners by communicating clearly, following through on commitments, and building strong relationships. Adapt to changing priorities and project needs, stepping in to support various tasks as required in a smaller, team-oriented organization. Maintain a consistent presence on project sites in the Denver metro area, supporting field and office activities as needed. Essential Skills 0-2 years of experience in construction or project engineering, ideally in commercial construction. Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field. Foundational understanding of construction management principles and project engineering processes. Ability to interpret, write, and process construction documents accurately. Experience or familiarity with subcontractor coordination on construction projects. Knowledge of basic quality control practices in a construction environment. Understanding of project closeout procedures and documentation requirements. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams. Ability to represent the company professionally and uphold strong relationships with owners and customers. Comfort working on active project sites and managing multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Commercial construction experience, particularly in healthcare, medical office, zoo, or museum projects, is highly desirable. High character and integrity, with a commitment to honesty, trust, and follow-through. Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues and avoid blame-focused behavior. Ability to adapt to change and wear many hats in a smaller, collaborative organization. Strong relationship-building skills with a focus on delivering a great product rather than simply pursuing low bids. Professional demeanor and comfort working directly with clients and subcontractors. Interest in growing within a company that emphasizes long-term relationships, respect, and collaboration. Motivation to contribute to a backlog of work extending several years and to build a long-term career with the organization. Appreciation for a culture that values both serious, high-quality work and a sense of fun and camaraderie. Work Environment You will work primarily on project sites in the Denver metro area, often within professional healthcare environments and other occupied or sensitive facilities such as hospitals, medical offices, zoo exhibits, and museums. The schedule typically runs from either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with an expected workweek of approximately 40-45 hours. The company operates as a smaller, highly collaborative general contractor where team members are expected to be flexible, step into different roles, and assist with a variety of tasks as project needs evolve. The culture emphasizes honesty, trust, respect, and strong relationships with owners, clients, and trade partners. Team members describe the environment as professional, upfront, and relationship-oriented, with no finger-pointing when challenges arise. Leadership encourages people to take their work seriously while also having fun and maintaining a friendly atmosphere. The organization offers long-term stability with a multi-year backlog, supports employees with benefits such as retirement plan matching, and provides vehicle-related support for field roles such as assistant superintendents and superintendents. Dress and conduct are expected to remain professional and appropriate for healthcare and other client-facing environments.
