Full-time, Night Shift About the Role Our client is currently seeking experienced Field Engineers to support a large-scale telecommunications infrastructure refresh for a federal customer in Washington, DC. This permanent position will support the modernization and upgrade of enterprise voice, data, structured cabling, and telecommunications infrastructure across secure government environments. We are looking for hands-on telecommunications professionals with experience installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting Cat6 copper and fiber-optic cabling . This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a strong field background who are comfortable working in telecommunications rooms, above ceilings, under raised floors, on ladders/lifts, and in other physically demanding environments. This position requires nighttime work. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Washington, DC or be willing to relocate to the area. What You'll Do Install, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot Cat6 copper and fiber-optic cabling . Perform cable testing and certification using TDRs and other industry-standard testing equipment.
Install and maintain:
Patch panels Fiber enclosures Racks and cabinets Cable trays Ladder racks Sleeves Innerduct and related telecommunications hardware Construct and repair telecommunications pathways, including tray, ladder rack, sleeves, and fire-stopping. Route, dress, bundle, secure, label, and organize copper and fiber cabling according to customer standards and best practices. Support telecommunications room buildouts and MDF/IDF upgrades . Support campus-wide cabling refresh and modernization projects across multiple buildings. Read and interpret telecom drawings, floor plans, wiring schematics, cable routes, and installation documentation. Support cutovers, migrations, telecommunications infrastructure upgrades, and system transitions. Troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling issues and identify appropriate corrective actions. Maintain accurate installation records, cable documentation, test results, and inventory information. Coordinate with engineers, project managers, technicians, and government personnel to support project schedules and requirements. Follow all federal, security, safety, and site-specific requirements. Perform other telecommunications and field engineering duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Active Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret clearance required. 2-10+ years of telecommunications infrastructure experience , depending on level. Experience installing and supporting structured cabling systems in enterprise, federal, commercial, or mission-critical environments. Hands-on experience with Cat6 copper cabling . Experience with fiber-optic cabling installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with telecommunications rooms, MDFs, and IDFs . Familiarity with cable certification and fiber-optic testing equipment. Ability to read and interpret telecommunications drawings, floor plans, schematics, and installation documentation. Ability to troubleshoot cabling and infrastructure issues in the field. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team. Strong communication and coordination skills. Ability to work nighttime hours. Preferred Qualifications BICSI Installer 1 or other BICSI credentials. Fiber-optic splicing experience. FOA certification. Experience with jetted or air-blown fiber . Advanced hands-on experience with Cat6 and fiber installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience supporting campus-wide telecommunications infrastructure modernization or refresh projects. Experience supporting federal or DoD customers. Experience working in secure or mission-critical environments. Experience with MDF/IDF construction and telecommunications room upgrades. Physical Requirements This is a hands-on field position.
Candidates must be able to:
Lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds . Work on ladders and lifts. Work in telecommunications rooms and confined or restricted spaces. Work above ceilings and under raised floors. Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, pull, and push throughout the workday. Pull and route copper and fiber cabling through ceilings, conduit, and cable pathways. Use hand tools, power tools, and cable testing equipment safely and effectively. Work in active construction, data center, campus, and secure government environments. Travel between buildings or work locations across the campus as needed. Work Schedule Night Shift - Full-Time This project will require work during nighttime hours to support telecommunications infrastructure installations, upgrades, cutovers, and modernization activities while minimizing disruption to ongoing government operations. Compensation $70,000-$120,000 per year Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, active security clearance level, certifications, technical skills, telecommunications experience, project requirements, and overall qualifications. Location Washington, DC Candidates must be within a reasonable commuting distance of Washington, DC or be willing to relocate.
