Job Title:
Project Engineer - Solid Waste and Landfill Systems Job Description leadership based on your skills, expertise, and drive. Responsibilities Collaborate with a multidisciplinary project team to deliver engineering support for current and future solid waste projects, primarily focused on landfill and landfill gas systems. Serve as a client-facing engineer, building strong relationships, understanding project needs, and providing responsive, solutions-oriented support. Perform engineering design for solid waste facilities, including landfill infrastructure, landfill gas systems, and related civil works. Prepare and review design plans, drawings, and specifications using AutoCAD Civil 3D to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards. Support permitting activities for solid waste facilities by preparing permit applications, technical documentation, and related submittals. Assist with compliance efforts by interpreting and applying relevant regulations, guidelines, and permits to project designs and operations. Oversee and monitor construction operations for solid waste and landfill-related projects, including field visits to observe progress, verify adherence to design, and support issue resolution. Coordinate with construction teams and clients on site to address technical questions, clarify design intent, and help maintain project schedules. Contribute to stormwater and drainage design and analysis associated with solid waste and land development projects, as needed. Apply civil and environmental engineering principles to support land development, grading, and infrastructure associated with solid waste facilities. Participate in project management activities such as task planning, progress tracking, and communication with internal stakeholders. Engage in problem solving to help ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, and in line with quality and safety expectations. Collaborate with upper leadership, project managers, and other engineers to share knowledge, support team goals, and continuously improve project delivery processes. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Construction, or a related engineering field. At least 3 years of related work experience in civil, environmental, or construction-focused engineering. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for preparing and reviewing engineering drawings and designs. Experience in civil engineering design, including grading, site layout, and related infrastructure. Ability to support and participate in project management activities, including coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions. Effective communication skills for client-facing interactions and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Valid driver's license to travel to project sites for construction oversight and client or contractor meetings. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience or strong interest in the solid waste industry, particularly landfill and landfill gas systems. Familiarity in environmental engineering, including permitting and compliance for solid waste or similar facilities. Familiarity with stormwater and drainage design within civil or land development projects. E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) certification preferred. Familiarity with relevant permits and regulatory requirements associated with solid waste facilities is preferred. Experience working on construction sites and coordinating with construction teams is beneficial. Demonstrated interest in environmental stewardship, such as reducing methane emissions, repurposing contaminated properties, producing alternative energy, or sequestering carbon. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clive, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
