Back Project Engineer Construction Project Management Plainfield , Illinois Permanent Sep 30, 2026 Title Project Engineer Location Plainfield, Illinois - Engineering Center of Excellence Primarily engineering-office based with potential temporary assignments to project sites. Overview This opportunity supports a leading global engineering, fabrication, and construction organization delivering complex industrial storage and energy infrastructure projects. The Project Engineer provides technical and administrative leadership for the engineering scope of assigned projects, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and ensuring engineering deliverables meet quality, schedule, cost, and client requirements. Must-Have Domains Large-scale industrial and energy project engineering Multidisciplinary engineering and design coordination Engineering project execution, controls, and deliverable management Core Responsibilities Direct and coordinate engineering and design discipline leads throughout assigned project execution. Lead engineering deliverables, including schedules, budgets, document controls, staffing requirements, and technical work products. Establish and maintain project engineering procedures to ensure compliance with client, technical, quality, and project requirements. Coordinate multidisciplinary communication, resolve engineering issues, and proactively manage project changes. Partner with clients, project management, procurement, subcontracting, estimating, fabrication, and construction teams to maintain engineering quality, schedule, and cost performance. Must-Have Experience 3+ years of project engineering experience supporting large industrial projects. 3-5+ years of engineering discipline experience within industrial, energy, fabrication, construction, or related environments. Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams while managing technical deliverables, schedules, budgets, priorities, and project requirements. Preferred Skills Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Experience serving in a Project Engineering Manager or comparable technical leadership capacity. Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and client-facing communication skills. Ability to influence technical and business stakeholders across multiple organizational levels. Strong understanding of engineering quality, continuous improvement, forecasting, and project performance management. Work Environment Reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with Project Management, Procurement, Subcontracts, Estimating, and engineering discipline teams. Based at the Plainfield, Illinois Engineering Center of Excellence, with potential temporary assignments to project sites.
