Back Construction Support Engineer Construction Project Management Plainfield , Illinois Permanent Sep 30, 2026 Title Construction Support Engineer Location Hybrid - Plainfield, IL role with travel to Project/site-based sites as required. Overview This role supports a leading global provider of storage infrastructure and asset solutions serving complex industrial environments. The Construction Support Engineer develops and reviews constructability plans, erection designs, lifting and rigging solutions, temporary structures, and construction engineering deliverables for storage projects. The position offers increasing technical ownership as experience grows, with progression toward independently handling more complex plate-structure construction engineering assignments. Must-Have Domains Construction engineering and constructability planning for industrial structures. Structural/mechanical design supporting lifting, rigging, erection, and temporary works. Engineering analysis for storage structures, field execution, and construction safety systems. Core Responsibilities Develop constructability and erection plans for standard and complex storage structures, including construction layouts, calculations, specifications, and procedures. Perform detailed lifting and rigging analyses, including jacking operations, lifting attachments, ground-bearing pressures, matting requirements, and lifted-component stress checks. Design lifting devices, temporary support structures, fall-protection systems, anchor points, and access equipment in accordance with applicable engineering standards. Interpret geotechnical investigation reports and incorporate site and soil conditions into construction engineering solutions. Collaborate with drafting, modeling, engineering, estimating, operations, project management, and field teams while providing constructability reviews and onsite construction support. Must-Have Experience 2+ years of relevant engineering experience supporting construction, structural, mechanical, or industrial projects. Experience performing engineering calculations and developing drawings, specifications, or procedures for construction and erection activities. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capability with the ability to manage multiple technical priorities and increasingly complex assignments. Top 5 Must-Have Technical Skills Lifting and rigging analysis, including lift calculations, lifting attachments, and jacking methods. Structural engineering calculations for temporary supports, lifted components, and construction loads. Ground-bearing pressure analysis, matting design, and interpretation of geotechnical investigation reports. Design of fall-protection systems, anchor points, temporary structures, and construction access equipment. Working knowledge of
AISC, OSHA, ASME
B30, and
ASME BTH
requirements applicable to lifting and construction engineering. Education Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution preferred. EIT certification or active progress toward EIT and subsequent Professional Engineer licensure preferred. Professional Engineer license in at least one state preferred. Preferred Skills Experience with storage tank and/or pressure vessel design. Knowledge of plate structures and storage-system construction. Strong technical communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively with engineering, estimating, operations, project management, and field construction teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and adapt within complex project environments. Work Environment Engineering role supporting both office-based design activities and active project/construction sites. Travel to project sites is required to support execution, constructability reviews, and engineering activities.
