Full-Time Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer - Capital Projects to support the planning, development, and execution of capital improvement initiatives at our Brazil, Indiana facility. This role is responsible for managing capital projects from initial concept through final commissioning and closeout, ensuring all projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational objectives . The Project Engineer will oversee an annual capital budget of approximately $1.25 million and will serve as a key liaison between operations, maintenance, finance, leadership, and external contractors. This position requires strong technical judgment, financial acumen, and project leadership skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Capital Project Planning & Development
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize capital improvement projects based on operational needs, asset condition, safety considerations, and strategic business goals.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary engineering evaluations, cost estimates, return-on-investment (ROI) analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Develop project charters, preliminary designs, scopes of work, and capital funding requests for leadership approval. Project Execution & Delivery
  • Lead capital projects through all phases, including initiation, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final closeout.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans to ensure timely and cost-effective execution.
  • Coordinate internal resources and cross-functional teams to support project milestones and minimize operational disruptions. Contractor & Vendor Management
  • Manage external contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Oversee procurement of materials, equipment, and services in accordance with company policies and capital approval processes.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction progress, workmanship quality, and adherence to safety protocols. Budget & Financial Control
  • Manage an annual capital budget of approximately $1-1.25 million .
  • Track project costs, review and approve invoices, and maintain accurate financial documentation.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering solutions without compromising quality, performance, or safety. Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare and present regular project status updates, schedules, and financial reports to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, change orders, risk registers, meeting minutes, and closeout reports.
  • Ensure all capital projects are properly documented for audit, compliance, and future reference. Operational Integration & Continuous Improvement
  • Coordinate closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure smooth integration of new equipment, systems, or facility upgrades.
  • Support commissioning activities and transition projects into ongoing operations.
  • Promote a continuous improvement mindset by incorporating lessons learned and best practices into future capital projects. Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, or related discipline). Experience
  • 3-7 years of experience in project engineering, capital project management, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple capital projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, industrial facilities, utilities, or similar environments preferred. Technical & Professional Skills
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, vendors, and engineering firms.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera, or similar software .
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design and drafting software .
