Senior Project Engineer - Commercial ConstructionPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead technical execution on commercial construction projects. The role focuses on coordinating design and construction teams, ensuring schedule and budget adherence, maintaining quality and safety standards, and delivering projects that meet client expectations. The Senior Project Engineer will act as the primary technical resource on site and in the office, driving constructability, resolving field issues, and mentoring junior staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the technical lead for commercial construction projects, reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure constructability and compliance.
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and owners to develop and maintain project schedules, sequences, and logistics.
Prepare, review, and process submittals, RFIs, change orders, and technical correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
Monitor project budgets and cost control; support forecasting, track expenses, review subcontractor invoices, and recommend corrective actions.
Perform regular site visits to review progress, verify quality, resolve field issues, and enforce safety and quality control standards.
Develop and maintain project documentation, including meeting minutes, daily reports, punch lists, and as-built records.
Lead coordination efforts for BIM, MEP, structural, and architectural trades to minimize clashes and improve installation efficiency.
Support procurement and materials management to ensure timely delivery and proper storage of equipment and materials.
Mentor and train junior engineers and field staff, promoting best practices, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
Participate in client meetings, progress reporting, and closeout activities, including commissioning and turnover documentation.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.7+ years of commercial construction experience with progressive responsibility; prior experience as a Project Engineer required.
Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, reading construction drawings, specifications, and contract administration.
Proven experience with project controls: scheduling (MS Project or Primavera), cost tracking, submittal/RFI systems (Procore, Aconex, or similar).Experience with BIM coordination tools (Navisworks, Revit) and construction document management (Bluebeam, PlanGrid) preferred.
Professional registrations or certifications a plus (PE, CCM, LEED
AP, PMP, OSHA 30
