Job Description

Position Summary South Annapolis Yacht Centre is seeking a skilled, hands-on Building Engineer to oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of our commercial buildings, marina, docks, grounds, and surrounding facilities. This position is ideal for a versatile maintenance professional with strong handyman skills and advanced technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and general facility maintenance. The Building Engineer will be responsible for identifying and resolving maintenance issues, performing preventative maintenance, coordinating outside contractors, and ensuring that the property remains safe, functional, and well-maintained. Building & Facility Maintenance Maintain and repair commercial buildings, common areas, mechanical rooms, and facility infrastructure. Perform general carpentry, drywall, painting, fixture, door, lock, and hardware repairs. Inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and potential safety hazards. Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for buildings and equipment. Mechanical Systems Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform basic repairs on HVAC systems, plumbing fixtures, water heaters, pumps, and related equipment. Diagnose electrical issues involving lighting, outlets, switches, fixtures, and building equipment, within the scope of applicable qualifications. Replace filters, fixtures, and other components as permitted and appropriately qualified. Coordinate with licensed contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and installations. Marina & Dock Maintenance Inspect and maintain docks, piers, gangways, and other marina infrastructure. Repair or report issues involving decking, cleats, hardware, railings, and other dock components. Assist with the maintenance of dockside water, electrical, and utility systems within applicable qualifications. Support seasonal marina preparation, storm readiness, and post-storm inspections. Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance Maintain the appearance and functionality of the property's grounds, landscaping, walkways, parking areas, and outdoor spaces. Perform mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, planting, pruning, and seasonal cleanup. Maintain exterior lighting, fencing, signage, and other outdoor infrastructure. Assist with storm preparation, debris removal, and other weather-related maintenance needs. Operations & Vendor Coordination Respond to maintenance requests and prioritize work based on urgency, safety, and operational needs. Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors and monitor work to ensure quality and timely completion. Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, repairs, and equipment servicing. Manage and maintain an organized inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies. Follow all applicable safety procedures, OSHA standards, and facility protocols. Assist with special projects, facility improvements, and other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications & Skills High school diploma or equivalent. 5+ years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, commercial property maintenance, or a related field. Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues. Broad handyman skills, including carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and general mechanical maintenance. Experience maintaining commercial buildings and complex facilities. Strong groundskeeping and landscaping skills. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in a waterfront environment. Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a marina, yacht center, boatyard, or waterfront property. Experience with preventative maintenance or work-order management systems. Experience coordinating outside contractors and overseeing maintenance projects.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials. Ability to bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work around mechanical equipment. Ability to work safely on docks, piers, and other waterfront structures. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Occasional after-hours, weekend, or emergency availability may be required.
Pay:
$29.00 - $39.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
