Job Description

Project Engineer A well-established commercial construction contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support the successful execution of commercial construction projects throughout Maryland. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an organized, detail-oriented construction professional to work alongside experienced Project Managers and Field Superintendents while building a long-term career with a respected industry leader.

The Project Engineer will assist with project planning, procurement, scheduling, documentation, quality assurance, financial administration, and project closeout to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements

  • Key ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination
  • Support Project Managers and Field Superintendents throughout all phases of commercial construction projects.
  • Coordinate project activities to help maintain schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
Preconstruction & Procurement
  • Assist with subcontractor and supplier solicitation, bid evaluation, scope development, purchasing, and procurement activities.
  • Support project startup, mobilization, and preconstruction planning.
Project Scheduling
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating baseline construction schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and provide schedule updates on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Help identify scheduling conflicts and recommend corrective actions.
Contracts & Project Documentation
  • Prepare scopes of work for subcontract agreements and purchase orders.
  • Review, process, track, and distribute construction submittals.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure timely communication and distribution of project information to all stakeholders.
Change Management
  • Assist in preparing, pricing, submitting, and tracking Requests for Change Orders (RCOs) and Change Orders.
  • Maintain documentation for design revisions, drawing updates, and contract modifications.
  • Distribute revised plans and specifications to subcontractors and suppliers.
Project Meetings & RFIs
  • Participate in owner meetings, subcontractor meetings, foreman meetings, commissioning meetings, and project coordination meetings.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Assist with preparation, tracking, and resolution of Requests for Information (RFIs).Financial Administration
  • Support monthly owner pay applications and progress billings.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier invoices and payment applications for accuracy.
  • Assist with project cost tracking and financial reporting.
Quality Control & Project Closeout
  • Support quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) throughout construction.
  • Assist with punch list development, tracking, and completion.
  • Coordinate project closeout documentation, including record drawings (as-builts), warranties, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, and turnover packages.
Sustainability & Construction Technology
  • Track LEED documentation, including material logs, submittals, and photo documentation.
  • Support commissioning activities and project closeout requirements.
  • Assist with Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination using industry-standard software
  • -Qualifications
  • Associate degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience as a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager within commercial construction is preferred.
  • Experience supporting commercial construction projects valued at $10 million or more is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Primavera P6, Sage Timberline, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360), Prolog, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED certification process is a plus.
  • Experience with BIM software including Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or related modeling platforms is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working in a fast-paced commercial construction environment.
