  • An Intern will work collaboratively with our teams to support a Burns & McDonnell Department, Global Practice or Regional Office.

This position will provide support and assistance with requests in support of the business strategy. Geotechnical The Geotechnical Intern will work collaboratively with the responsible geotechnical engineer as part of the Burns & McDonnell Geotechnical Department, supporting and assisting with engineering-related services. Responsibilities include contributing to geotechnical design from the conceptual phase through design completion, compiling project-related data such as boring logs and subsurface profiles, and helping plan subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs. The intern will apply basic knowledge of commonly used geotechnical engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures to support the department's work and gain hands-on experience in the field.

+ Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.

+ Assist with responses to general questions.

+ Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.

+ Present solutions to concerns.

+ Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.

+ Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

+ Complies with all policies and standards.

  • Qualifications
  • + Pursuit of bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.

+ ABET accreditation strongly preferred.

+ Pursuit of Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program strongly preferred.

+ Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

+ Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

+ Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

+ Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

+ Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

+ Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

+ Demonstrated leadership skills.

+ Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

+ Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
