Job Description

The Project Engineering Department is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting capital and continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations and site infrastructure. The team partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and external contractors to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and deliver projects that improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and production capability. As a Project Engineering Intern , you will support engineering and capital project activities while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. This role provides opportunities to work alongside project engineers, operations personnel, and cross-functional teams to support facility improvements, equipment installations, process optimization, and project documentation. Interns will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept development and design through project execution and startup.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Support capital and continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations and site infrastructure. Assist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and project tracking activities. Participate in facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities. Support engineering studies, evaluations, and technical assessments related to manufacturing processes and infrastructure. Assist with contractor coordination, project documentation, and engineering records. Help develop project specifications, drawings, reports, and technical documentation. Analyze operational and project data to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in project meetings, site walkthroughs, and startup activities. Present project findings, recommendations, and outcomes to site leadership and project stakeholders. What You'll Need to Be Successful We are looking for students who are currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in: Mechanical Engineering Chemical Engineering Electrical Engineering Industrial Engineering Construction Engineering Or a related engineering discipline Required Qualifications and Competencies Minimum 3.0 GPA. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Interest in engineering project management, manufacturing operations, and continuous improvement. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Sophomore standing or higher at the time of application. Ability to arrange your own housing and transportation. Ways of Working / Working Conditions Full-time internship assignment lasting approximately 10 weeks. Located on-site in Franklinton, NC. Exposure to manufacturing operations, engineering projects, and industrial infrastructure systems. Occasional use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering production areas. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, Engineering, and external contractors.
