This position assists with project documentation, material procurement, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, cost tracking, change management, and closeout activities to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements. The Project Engineer serves as an important link between the field and office and helps maintain effective relationships with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, inspectors, public agencies, and other project stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Project Coordination and Communication Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day coordination and administration of assigned projects. Serve as a point of contact for clients, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders regarding administrative and technical project matters. Assist with requests for information, submittals, scope clarifications, scheduling questions, field coordination, and other project correspondence. Maintain clear and timely communication between the Project Manager, field supervision, project owner or general contractor, and internal support functions. Attend project meetings, document action items, and follow through on assigned responsibilities. Coordinate with the client or general contractor to confirm that upcoming work areas are available and ready for ABI's crews. Plans, Specifications, and Document Control Review and understand project plans, specifications, addenda, geotechnical reports, contracts, schedules, and other project documentation. Maintain current plans, specifications, sketches, RFIs, submittals, and other project documents so that field and office personnel are working from the most current information. Communicate plan revisions, scope changes, and update project requirements to the Project Manager and field supervision. Prepare plan takeoffs, quantity calculations, and support documentation for material procurement, production planning, and change management. Assist in maintaining accurate field records, schedules, as-built information, photographs, and other documentation required to support project execution and closeout. Submittals and RFIs Prepare, submit, distribute, and track RFIs, product data, mix designs, shop drawings, samples, and other required submittals through final approval. Review submittals and shop drawings for general conformance with contract documents before forwarding them for approval. Monitor outstanding RFIs and submittals and follow up as necessary to prevent project delays. Distribute approved submittals and related information to the Project Manager, field supervision, suppliers, and other appropriate parties. Materials, Purchasing, and Subcontractor Coordination Assist with purchasing and releasing materials for production and delivery in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements. Obtain and evaluate material and subcontractor quotations, prepare bid or purchase comparison information, and make recommendations to the Project Manager. Compile subcontractor bid packages and assist with the preparation and administration of subcontracts and purchase orders. Order and track materials to help ensure deliveries support the project schedule and field production requirements. Coordinate with suppliers regarding approved materials, fabrication schedules, delivery requirements, and required documentation. Field Coordination and Project Controls Maintain a regular presence in the field to understand project conditions, observe progress, and support coordination between field and office personnel. Track crew activities, quantities installed, production progress, material usage, and field conditions to support accurate schedules, cost reporting, and as-built documentation. Collaborate with the Project Manager and field supervision on short-term planning and overall project schedules. Help identify potential scheduling conflicts, scope gaps, material delays, and other issues that could affect safety, production, quality, cost, or project completion. Elevate project risks and concerns promptly to the Project Manager and assist with developing and implementing solutions. Support quality-control activities and help verify that completed work conforms to contract documents, approved submittals, and applicable standards. Coordinate utility mark-outs, permits, inspections, testing, and required notifications as applicable to the project. Cost Management and Change Orders Assist the Project Manager with cost coding, production tracking, quantity reporting, committed costs, budget updates, forecasts, and preparation for monthly project reviews. Prepare and track change-order documentation, including quantities, labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor costs, supporting records, and pricing information. Maintain organized records of pending, submitted, approved, and rejected change orders. Develop the business acumen necessary to understand project billing, cost management, productivity, profitability, and gross-margin performance. Assist with compiling documentation needed for progress billings, payment applications, and resolution of payment-related questions. Project Closeout Coordinate and maintain project closeout documentation, including as-built plans, warranties, guarantees, certifications, testing reports, operation and maintenance information, punch-list records, and other contractually required documents. Track punch-list work and assist the Project Manager and field supervision in achieving timely completion and acceptance. Confirm that required project documentation has been submitted, approved, and properly retained before final closeout.
