Project Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities Manage and execute capital and improvement projects from initial concept through design, procurement, construction, and startup. Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and technical specifications. Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and process engineering teams to identify plant improvement opportunities. Review and approve engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and contractor deliverables. Support procurement activities including equipment selection, vendor evaluation, and bid reviews. Monitor project budgets and schedules, providing regular status updates to management. Ensure projects comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. Participate in hazard reviews, risk assessments, and safety reviews (e.g., PHA, HAZOP). Oversee contractors and construction activities during project execution. Troubleshoot mechanical and process equipment issues related to project installations. Develop and maintain project documentation including reports, drawings, and operating procedures. Support plant commissioning, startup, and performance verification of new systems. Working Conditions Work is performed in both office and industrial plant environments. Frequent field work requiring use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Ability to climb ladders, walk long distances, and work in varying weather conditions. Occasional work during plant shutdowns or extended hours may be required. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. 3-5 years of engineering experience in a chemical plant, refinery, manufacturing facility, or similar industrial environment (entry-level candidates may be considered). Basic knowledge of mechanical systems including pumps, piping, heat exchangers, compressors, and rotating equipment. Understanding of engineering drawings such as P&IDs, piping layouts, and mechanical drawings. Familiarity with project management principles and engineering design practices. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and contractors. Preferred Qualifications Experience with capital project execution in a plant environment. Knowledge of process safety standards and industrial codes. Familiarity with CAD software and engineering documentation systems. Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental compliance requirements. The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects within a chemical manufacturing facility. This role supports capital and maintenance projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The Project Engineer collaborates with operations, maintenance, safety, and external contractors to improve plant performance, reliability, and efficiency.
