Postdoctoral Associate ~ School of Civil and Environmental Engineering The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University seeks a postdoctoral associate. The position will be located at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, USA. The position is initially available for one year with a potential renewal for a total of two years. We have developed a novel computational framework to improve understanding of the underlying dynamics that lead to escalating regional hurricane disaster risk, and to support design and analysis of public policy interventions to address them. The framework explicitly considers perspectives of and interactions among multiple key stakeholders (government, primary insurers, and homeowners), and multiple diverse interventions (e.g., home strengthening, acquisition, and insurance). It includes a computable general equilibrium model to relate hurricane damage to gross domestic product, labor wages, savings, etc. We envision the person hired in this position will extend this framework in several ways including the representation of simultaneous markets for parametric and traditional insurance products. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in civil engineering, operations research, computer science or closely related field.
